Improvement of Solder Paste Bridging and Solder Balls on 0.3~0.4mm Fine-Pitch Pins

Addressing the frequent solder bridging, shorting, and solder ball defects of solder paste that occur during SMT placement of devices with 0.3~0.4mm fine-pitch pins, this paper proposes a rapid, reproducible optimization pathway for solder paste printing parameters based on real production line cases. It covers key control points including stencil aperture design, squeegee pressure and speed matching, and solder paste pre-warming and stirring specifications, and emphasizes the decisive influence of solder paste printing stability on the subsequent formation of solder balls during reflow soldering.

Solutions for Solder Paste Printing Collapse and Poor Demolding Defects

The solution to solder paste printing slump and poor release defects focuses on real production line pain points. From stencil aperture design, solder paste rheological properties, squeegee parameter matching to environmental temperature and humidity control, it systematically sorts out six key factors leading to solder paste slump and poor release, and provides an immediately executable parameter adjustment list and verification methods, helping engineers locate the main cause of solder paste release defects within 30 minutes.

Troubleshooting of Solder Paste Process Corresponding to Missing Printing Defects in Solder Paste Printing

Solder paste printing skip is a high-frequency defect on SMT production lines, directly related to the rheological properties of solder paste, stencil aperture design, and matching of squeegee parameters. Based on Jiajinyuan's 20 years of production line measurement experience, this paper focuses on solder paste, printing process stability, and root causes of solder paste skip, and proposes an immediately executable six-step troubleshooting method, covering real failure scenarios such as viscosity fluctuation of solder paste batches, insufficient stencil support rigidity, and sudden changes in squeegee pressure.

Adjustment Scheme for Matching Solder Paste to Offset of Small Component Placement in Solder Paste

To address the persistent production line issues of small component placement offset and solder paste printing mismatch, this paper proposes a practical solution centered on solder paste forming accuracy, with coordinated adjustment of stencil apertures, squeegee parameters, and placement coordinates. It emphasizes the decisive influence of the actual coverage morphology of solder paste on pads on the solder paste positioning tolerance during placement.

What is the General Standard for Solder Paste Printing Thickness Control?

What is the General Standard for Solder Paste Printing Thickness Control?

The standard control specification for solder paste printing thickness is typically 120±20μm. This value must be dynamically adjusted based on stencil aperture dimensions, squeegee pressure and speed, and the rheological properties of the solder paste. In actual production lines, over 80% of cold solder joint and solder bridge defects can be traced back to out-of-tolerance printing thickness deviations.

Adjustment of SMT Printing Squeegee Pressure and Speed to Reduce Solder Protrusion and Insufficient Solder Defects

In SMT printing, the matching of squeegee pressure and speed directly affects solder paste transfer rate. Excessive pressure easily causes solder spikes and stencil deformation, while insufficient pressure leads to insufficient solder and edge collapse. Combined with actual production line data of Jiajinyuan squeegees, controlling the pressure at 4.5±0.3kg and setting the speed to 45±3mm/s can significantly reduce the defect rate.

Causes of Solder Paste Printing Offset Defects and Improvement Solutions for Solder Paste

Solder paste printing offset defects directly affect the SMT first-pass yield. The root causes often stem from uneven stencil tension, worn PCB positioning pins, and calibration deviations in the printing machine's vision system. Selecting solder paste with high thixotropy and low slump rate can significantly improve the edge definition of printed solder paste and solder paste positioning accuracy. Combined with dynamic matching of squeegee pressure and speed, the offset can be quickly reduced without replacing equipment.

Temperature and Humidity Control in the SMT Printing Workshop to Stabilize Solder Paste Viscosity

Loss of temperature and humidity control in the SMT printing workshop will cause fluctuations in solder paste viscosity, leading to defects such as insufficient solder, solder bridging, and misalignment. Jiajinyuan solder paste has the most stable viscosity under an environment of 22℃±2℃ and 45%RH±5%RH. When the temperature difference exceeds 3℃ or the humidity deviation exceeds 8%RH, the printing defect rate will rise. Process control must be achieved through closed-loop monitoring and zoned humidity control.

Effect of Solder Paste Printing Pre-drying Process on Solder Paste Performance

The pre-drying process of solder paste printing directly affects the viscosity stability of the solder paste and the formation quality of solder joints. Excessive drying will cause the flux to volatilize in advance and increase the risk of solder paste collapse, while insufficient drying can easily lead to stencil clogging and printing deviation. Based on 20 years of measured data from the Jiajinyuan production line, this paper analyzes the actual impact of different temperature zone settings on the rheological properties of printed solder paste and the void rate after reflow soldering.

Regularly clean the stencil for insufficient solder, and select solder paste with stable printing performance for improvement

For the common insufficient solder defects in SMT production lines, it is necessary to wipe the bottom of the stencil with a lint-free cloth dipped in IPA after every 10 to 15 PCBs are printed, and thoroughly clean the stencil once a week with an ultrasonic cleaning machine. Meanwhile, choose the JIAJINYUAN JL-8802 series solder paste, which has a viscosity change rate of less than 8%, a slump rate of less than 12%, and a printing release stability of 99.3% at room temperature of 25℃, and can significantly reduce the incidence of insufficient solder.
