Starting from January 2026, multiple small and medium-sized SMT Solder enterprises in East China and South China have successively adjusted their production scheduling plans, with some enterprises converting wave soldering bar production lines to small-batch, high-reliability Solder Paste foundry services. This trend is directly related to downstream EMS manufacturers' concentrated release of automotive-grade PCBA orders and stricter internal control standards for metal content deviation and oxide residue, reflecting that the supply-demand relationship of SMT solder is shifting from general supply to competition in scenario-based delivery capabilities.
A Shenzhen-based Solder Manufacturer established 12 years ago suspended two traditional rosin-based Solder Wire production lines in mid-February 2026. Its internal notice shows that the gross profit margin of such products has continuously dropped from 18.3% to less than 6.5% in the past three years. During the same period, the acceptance frequency of customers for indicators such as halogen-free, low void rate, and -40℃ to 150℃ thermal cycle stability has increased by more than three times, while the third-party testing and certification cycle has been extended to an average of 76 working days, significantly raising the technical verification and production line debugging costs for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Industry monitoring data shows that the combined market share of the top five domestic SMT solder manufacturers reached 41.7% in 2025, an increase of nearly 9 percentage points compared with 2022. Two leading enterprises among them completed the full introduction of Japanese and Korean low-temperature solder paste formula teams in Q4 2025, and simultaneously built clean filling workshops in Dongguan and Suzhou that meet the latest version of IPC-J-STD-004C requirements. This move not only strengthens material adaptability in emerging scenarios such as Mini-LED die bonding and SiC module mounting, but also forces small and medium-sized peers to accelerate technical catch-up in underlying process links such as Flux activity regulation and metal powder sphericity control.
A specialized and sophisticated enterprise in Changzhou focusing on solder paste for BGA rework revealed that in its Q1 2026 customer audits, 83% of end brands added on-site sampling requirements for the melting point fluctuation range between solder batches (within ±0.8℃) and the repeatability of reflow profile under nitrogen protection (CV value ≤2.1%). Such technical thresholds, originally only seen in the IQC processes of leading foundries, are rapidly sinking into the access system of secondary suppliers, causing significant pressure on small and medium-sized enterprises lacking online quality control systems and basic metallurgical laboratories.
It is worth noting that the group standard "Green Manufacturing Evaluation Specification for Electronic Assembly Materials", which came into effect in February 2026, has officially tightened the lower limit of lead content detection to 12ppm, and requires enterprises to provide filing of online VOCs monitoring data throughout the production cycle. Multiple interviewed small and medium-sized enterprises stated that the initial investment alone for modifying solvent recovery devices and installing heavy metal wastewater membrane separation units exceeds 3.2 million yuan, and such investment is difficult to pass on to downstream through price increases in the short term, further compressing the already thin profit margins.
