01005 Component Soldering is not a problem that can be solved by simply scaling up conventional operating habits. It forces you to reduce the squeegee pressure from the standard 8N to 4.2N, lower the printing speed from 40mm/s to 22mm/s, and shrink the release distance from 1.2mm to 0.6mm; otherwise, burrs at the edge of the Solder Paste will directly cause solder bridging or tombstoning. These parameter changes must also be synchronized with adjustments to the stencil aperture ratio. For example, 0.12mm pitch pads must use 0.095mm elliptical apertures with 35° sidewall polishing; otherwise, JJY JTY-806 solder paste cannot form a complete bond at a 0.1mm thickness.
The challenges in the placement stage are more subtle. The nozzle vacuum value must be stable at -82kPa with a response time of <80ms; otherwise, 0.03mm-level bouncing will occur the moment the 01005 component is released along the Z-axis. If the vision system does not enable the dual-light dynamic compensation algorithm, it cannot identify positioning offsets caused by reflections from the pad oxide layer. We once observed at a customer site that the yield of the same JTS-300 machine was 99.4% in the morning but dropped to 97.8% in the afternoon. The root cause was eventually traced to excessive moisture in the compressed air, which caused condensation on the inner wall of the nozzle, leading to intermittent vacuum leakage and pressure fluctuations.
The Reflow Soldering profile cannot be copied from the 0201 template. For 01005 component soldering, the ramp-up rate in the preheating zone must be kept below 1.2℃/s; otherwise, a temperature difference exceeding 35℃ between the substrate and the component body will induce warpage. The temperature in the soaking zone must be maintained at 150±2℃ for 90 seconds to fully activate the Flux without premature carbonization. The peak temperature must be strictly locked between 238 and 240℃. Too high a temperature will easily melt through the nickel barrier layer, while too low a temperature will result in an IMC layer thickness of less than 0.3μm. X-ray sampling inspection found that cold solder joints were concentrated at the junction of zones 3 and 7, indicating that the chain speed fluctuation had exceeded the allowable range of ±0.5%.
The impact of stencil life on 01005 component soldering is far greater than imagined. After a new stencil prints 500 boards continuously, the aperture area attenuation rate reaches 0.8%, and by 2000 boards, it reaches 3.7%. At this point, even adjusting the squeegee angle cannot compensate for the solder volume deviation, and mandatory replacement is required. The JJY JTY-806 solder paste has a metal content of 88.5% and a viscosity of 620Pa·s, which makes it 2.3 times more sensitive to stencil wear than ordinary solder pastes. Therefore, the production line must establish a mandatory inspection system for measuring aperture dimensions every shift, rather than relying on equipment alarm thresholds.
Rework is even more like dancing on the edge of a knife. The hot air gun must use a 0.3mm nozzle with an 8L/min nitrogen flow rate, heating uniformly in a spiral trajectory at a height of 0.8mm from the component, with the ramp-up rate controlled at 0.8℃/s. Otherwise, the 01005 component will be blown away within 1.7 seconds or the pad will be torn by thermal stress. We tested with a JJY dedicated rework station and found that setting the preheating platform temperature to 110℃ reduces the risk of pad peeling by 62% compared to setting it to 90℃. However, the prerequisite is that the bottom support of the PCB must have a single-point contact area of ≤0.05mm²; otherwise, local overheating will instead exacerbate copper foil lifting.
