Low-smoke Solder Wire for Connector Soldering is not simply made by reducing rosin content; instead, by optimizing the Flux carrier ratio and thermal decomposition path, it compresses smoke generation to 35% of that of conventional solder wires within a peak temperature range of 260℃±5℃. Measured data shows that the load of the workshop exhaust system has decreased by 42%, which directly contributes to extending the service life of automatic soldering equipment nozzles and reducing the probability of solder joint oxidation.
Production line verification data must be obtained under real working conditions
We used JJY JJS-98A low-smoke solder wire in conjunction with an automatic wire feeder at an automotive connector factory in Dongguan. The line speed was set to 1.8m/min, wire feed tension to 0.12N, and soldering tip temperature to 335℃. The soldering yield remained stable at 99.87% over 72 hours of continuous tracking. Among the defects, misalignment caused by smoke obscuring visual positioning dropped from the original 0.63% to 0.09%, indicating that low-volatility components indeed improved AOI recognition stability.
Do not focus solely on smoke indicators while neglecting process compatibility
Low smoke does not equal low activity. This connector solder adopts a modified organic acid compound system, which can achieve complete wetting within 0.8 seconds on three common connector substrates: nickel-plated copper, tin-plated copper, and cold-rolled steel. Tensile tests show that the average tensile strength of Φ2.8mm male and female terminals after soldering reaches 7.3kgf, far exceeding the mechanical retention force requirements of IEC 60664-1 for Class II insulation spacing.
The biggest concerns in automatic soldering are wire clogging and breakage
The core diameter deviation of this JJY solder wire is controlled within ±0.015mm. Combined with its surface micro-polishing treatment, it can still stably pass through the 0.95mm diameter ceramic wire guide tube of the wire feeder even at a 1.2mm wire diameter specification. No jamming occurred during 200,000 consecutive wire feed cycles. In contrast, a competing product tested under the same conditions experienced 7 abnormal shutdowns, mainly because flux precipitates accumulated on the inner wall of the wire guide tube to form a micro-film layer.
Batch consistency is the lifeline of mass production
Before each batch of connector solder leaves the factory, melt-state rheology testing and ion chromatography analysis of flux residues are completed. Cl? content ≤0.025mg/g, Br? ≤0.012mg/g. Moreover, the melting point fluctuation range of 10 solder wires in the same tray is compressed within 1.3℃. This reduces the standard deviation of solder joint grayscale values after Reflow Soldering from the original 4.7 to 1.9, avoiding missed detection of cold solder joints caused by wetting differences.
Switching solder types is not as simple as just changing the solder wire
When switching to low-smoke solder wire, the soldering tip cleaning frequency and nitrogen flow parameters must be adjusted synchronously. The original setting of cleaning once every 300 soldering operations is changed to once every 220 operations, and the nitrogen protection flow is increased from 8L/min to 11L/min. Otherwise, slight whitening on the solder joint surface will be observed after the 4th shift, which is caused by insufficient thermal decomposition of residues, rather than a quality issue with the solder wire itself.
