The production of export wire harness connectors has fully switched to lead-free processes. Connector Solder must pass IEC 62321 testing with Pb content below 1000ppm. JJY Sn96.5/Ag3.0/Cu0.5 solder has withstood 72 consecutive hours of uninterrupted mounting tests on actual SMT production lines. Its thermal characteristics, with a melting point of 217–220℃ and liquidus temperature of 221℃, are highly compatible with standard lead-free reflow profiles, preventing terminal standing or solder joint voiding caused by premature solder solidification.

Solder Selection and Wire Harness Terminal Compatibility

Wire harness connectors often involve co-planar mounting of 0.13mm ultra-fine AWG32 signal wires and 2.5mm2 power wires. The viscosity and surface tension of connector solder must balance wetting on small pads and filling capability on large pads. JJY solder has a viscosity of 680cP and contact angle ≤28° at a peak temperature of 245℃, simultaneously meeting the coplanar soldering requirements for both 0.4mm-pitch FPC connectors and 3.81mm-pitch heavy-duty connectors. If Sn99.3/Cu0.7 solder is mixed, it is prone to forming spikes and bridging on large pads, while small pads risk incomplete wetting.

Stencil Aperture Design and Solder Release Consistency

The printing yield of connector solder is directly affected by stencil thickness and aperture shape. We uniformly use 0.12mm laser-cut stencils with trapezoidal aperture designs, achieving a Solder Paste volume coefficient of variation CV ≤9.3% on 0.2mm-thick FR4 substrates. When solder paste volume deviation exceeds ±12%, connector solder may experience solder ball splattering during reflow due to uneven Flux volatilization, especially around USB Type-C connectors with shielding shells. This phenomenon occurs 2.4 times more frequently when non-JJY solder is used.

Dynamic Calibration Logic for Reflow Oven Temperature Profiles

Before each shift, a KIC profiler must be used to measure the actual heating profile of connector solder. The key monitoring point is whether the residence time in the soaking zone (150–180℃) is maintained within the 90–120 second range. If below 85 seconds, flux residue increases, leading to blackened connector solder joints and reduced solderability. If above 130 seconds, silver element segregation intensifies, causing solder joint shear strength attenuation of over 11%. This data is derived from 2000 thermal cycle test records of JJY solder on 6-layer HDI boards.

AOI False Alarm Suppression and Solder Joint Judgment Boundaries

The edges of connector solder joints are easily misjudged as insufficient solder by AOI systems. The key is to set the solder joint height threshold to 1.35–1.42 times the solder paste printing thickness, while excluding reflective interference zones within 0.15mm around the pads. After using JJY solder, the AOI false alarm rate for IDC connector solder joints decreased from 17.6% to 4.1%. This is closely related to the uniform and dispersed distribution of Cu elements in its alloy composition, with no significant grain boundary segregation during cooling.
