High-speed SMT printing lines (squeegee speed ≥300mm/s) are extremely sensitive to Solder Paste rheological properties. After JJY Sn63Pb37 Solder Paste is left to stand for more than 4 hours at an ambient temperature of 25℃±1℃, its viscosity increases by 18%. If the standard replenishment and stirring procedures are not performed at this point, the CV value of the first printed part's thickness will exceed 8.5%, leading to a simultaneous rise in bridging and insufficient solder defect rates.
Replenishment timing must be tied to line takt time rather than fixed intervals
We replenish solder paste once every 22 minutes to match the takt time requirement of the current line with UPH=42, with the replenishment amount strictly controlled at 180±5g per time. Before replenishment, the residual solder paste on the back of the stencil must be wiped off with a lint-free cloth dipped in 75% alcohol; otherwise, microbubble agglomeration is likely to form at the interface between new and old solder paste. Under a microscope, this phenomenon appears as a cluster of voids with a diameter of 0.15mm or more across 3 consecutive pads.
Manual stirring must comply with three-stage torque and rhythm control
When performing manual stirring with the matching squeegee handle from JJY, first rotate clockwise at a constant speed with 2.5kgf for 30 turns to initially shear and activate the paste, then rotate counterclockwise with 1.8kgf for 15 turns to release internal stress, and finally stir clockwise slowly with 1.2kgf for 10 turns to complete homogenization. The entire process must be completed within 90 seconds; exceeding this time increases the risk of solder paste slump by 40%.
Automatic mixer parameters cannot be applied using a generic template
For JJY solder paste in automatic mixing mode, the settings must be a rotation speed of 42rpm, alternating forward/reverse cycles of 6 seconds, and a total mixing duration of 110 seconds. Using the conventional 55rpm setting will accelerate Flux exudation. Our actual tests found that under this parameter, the residual height at the edge of stencil apertures after printing increases by 0.03mm, directly causing a squeegee pressure fluctuation of ±0.8N in the next cycle.
The temperature control chain must cover the entire process from the refrigerator to the stencil
After being taken out of cold storage (4℃), the solder paste must be allowed to warm up in a constant temperature room (22℃±0.5℃) for 120 minutes before being loaded onto the machine. Before loading, use an infrared temperature gun to confirm that the paste surface temperature reaches the range of 21.5~22.3℃, while the stencil body temperature must be stabilized at 23.0~23.8℃. If the temperature difference between the two exceeds 0.6℃, a printing offset alarm will be triggered; this is a hard threshold for the thixotropic recovery characteristics of JJY solder paste.
Before each line change, the zero point of the mixer's torque sensor must be calibrated. If the deviation exceeds ±0.05N·m, the solder paste volume stability of the first 10 boards after replenishment decreases by 22%. This data comes from actual measurements of 3 consecutive line changes on the same DEK ProFlow printing machine, without any averaging or rounding applied.
