Solder Paste stirring is an important step in the SMT process, which is directly related to the quality of subsequent printing and soldering. Especially in high-density PCB assembly, the uniformity of solder paste plays a decisive role in solder joint formation.
In actual production, we found that insufficiently stirred solder paste tends to stratify, leading to material shortage or misalignment during printing. This not only affects the yield rate but may also increase rework costs, so it must be carried out strictly in accordance with process requirements.
The selection of solder paste stirring equipment is crucial. Different models of equipment have different rotation speeds and stirring methods. For example, high-speed mixers are suitable for small-batch rapid processing, while low-speed mixers are more suitable for large-batch long-time operations. However, attention should be paid to time control to avoid performance degradation of solder paste caused by over-stirring.
In specific operations, stirring parameters should be adjusted according to the type of solder paste and storage conditions. For example, lead-containing solder paste and lead-free solder paste have obvious differences in viscosity and fluidity, so different stirring schemes need to be formulated separately. At the same time, the impact of ambient temperature on the state of solder paste should also be considered.
The stirred solder paste must be used within the specified time, otherwise it will cause unstable performance due to oxidation or solvent volatilization. Especially in high-temperature and high-humidity environments, the shelf life of solder paste will be significantly shortened, and the use time limit must be strictly monitored.
For some special applications, such as BGA or QFN packaging, the stirring of solder paste requires more refined management, because these components have extremely high requirements for the uniformity and stability of solder joints. Any slight deviation may lead to later failure, so air mixing should be minimized during the stirring process to avoid bubbles.
In daily maintenance, the cleaning and calibration of solder paste stirring equipment cannot be ignored. After long-term use, residual solder paste may accumulate inside the equipment, affecting the stirring effect. Regular cleaning and checking whether the rotation speed is stable are necessary measures to ensure production continuity.
In general, although solder paste stirring seems simple, it involves multiple variables in actual operation. Only by continuously optimizing parameters and strengthening process control can high-quality SMT production be truly achieved.
