We receive at least 12 batches of SGS Solder per day on the JJY SMT production line. In the past, goods often stayed in the warehouse for more than 48 hours while waiting for third-party inspection reports. Now the factory directly provides stamped copies of inspection certificates along with the goods. As long as the batch number matches the ERP system warehouse receipt, the goods can be released immediately. This eliminates the cost of repeated inspections and also avoids the risk of data deviation caused by different sampling points within the same batch.
The most critical part of the certificate is not the nominal value but the measured melting point range. For example, for the Sn96.5Ag3.0Cu0.5 batch, the measured solidus temperature is 217.3°C and the liquidus temperature is 219.8°C. This 0.5°C fluctuation must be strictly matched with the Reflow Soldering peak temperature window; otherwise, voids or cold soldering may easily form at the bottom of BGA components. We once reworked two batches of 0402 packaged tantalum capacitors due to this issue, and later solved it completely by extending the soaking zone in the oven temperature profile by 3 seconds.
Wettability test data also cannot be judged only by whether it passes or fails. The spread rate given on the SGS solder certificate is 87.6%, which is 1.2 percentage points higher than the industry benchmark. This means that when designing stencil apertures, the opening can be appropriately narrowed by 5μm without affecting the release rate. However, if incoming materials have slight oxidation on the OSP board surface, the printing pressure must be simultaneously increased by 0.8kgf to compensate for changes in surface tension.
In the impurity element section, the values of lead, bismuth, and zinc must all be closely monitored. If the lead content reaches 0.098%, it will cause solder joint embrittlement after wave soldering, while bismuth exceeding 0.003% will cause a sharp increase in solder beads during reflow soldering. Last week, a batch of goods had a bismuth value stuck at the critical point of 0.0029%. We temporarily reduced the reflow soldering cooling rate from 1.8°C/s to 1.3°C/s, and finally brought the AOI missed inspection rate back down to below 0.04% from 0.17%.
All copies of SGS solder certificates come with anti-counterfeiting QR codes. Scanning them with a mobile phone redirects to the JJY internal quality system to view the original spectra, including the original peak area data from three parallel ICP-OES measurements. This traceability capability allows us to quickly determine, when handling customer complaints, whether the Flux activity decline was caused by moisture absorption during transportation or uncontrolled temperature and humidity during storage.
The production line no longer needs to separately schedule DSC thermal analysis in the laboratory for each batch of SGS solder, because the certificate already includes the key inflection point coordinates of the differential scanning calorimetry curve. We directly import this data into the MES system to automatically generate the recommended oven temperature profile template for that batch, along with adjusting the stencil tension compensation coefficient. This linkage mechanism has compressed the time for new employees to debug the first article from an average of 27 minutes to within 11 minutes.
