In actual production, the selection between 305 Solder Paste and 0307 solder paste often depends on the characteristics of the soldering target. 305 solder paste has smaller particle size and is suitable for fine-pitch components on high-density PCBs, while 0307 solder paste has slightly coarser particles and is more suitable for large-sized components or applications requiring stronger fluidity.
The viscosity of 305 solder paste is usually lower, making it easier to form a uniform solder paste layer during the printing process, but it is also more prone to slumping. Especially in high-temperature environments or when the paste is left standing for too long after printing, it can easily lead to degraded solder joint quality. In contrast, 0307 solder paste has a relatively higher viscosity, which can effectively reduce the risk of slumping, but the squeegee pressure and speed need to be adjusted during printing.
During the Reflow Soldering process, 305 solder paste has a narrower melting point range, requiring stricter temperature profile control. If the temperature rises too quickly, it will cause incomplete Flux volatilization, which in turn affects the wettability of solder joints. 0307 solder paste has a wider melting point range and higher tolerance for temperature profiles, but in some cases, a longer holding time may be required to ensure complete melting of the solder.
From a cost perspective, the unit price of 305 solder paste is generally higher than that of 0307 solder paste, which is mainly related to the complexity of its production process and raw material costs. However, 305 solder paste performs more stably in high-precision soldering, reducing rework rates and defect rates, and may be more cost-effective in the long run.
In practical applications, it is recommended to comprehensively evaluate based on PCB design, component layout, and equipment performance. For example, for precision components such as BGA packages or QFN, 305 solder paste should be prioritized; for larger-sized through-hole components or applications requiring rapid curing, 0307 solder paste may be a better choice. Meanwhile, trial production is required to verify its compatibility and stability.
The storage and usage conditions of solder paste also affect the final results. Both 305 and 0307 solder pastes should be kept away from high-temperature and high-humidity environments, and used after opening according to the supplier's instructions to prevent oxidation and contamination.
305 solder paste and 0307 solder paste each have their own applicable scenarios. The actual selection should combine process requirements, equipment capabilities, and cost factors, and the final solution should be determined after verification through experimental data.
