Quality Control for Solder OEM Contract Manufacturing Follows ISO System, with Stable Batch Consistency

When we perform solder OEM contract manufacturing on the JiajinYuan production line, all incoming copper rods must be accompanied by an SGS composition report, and the measured oxygen content must not exceed 0.0018%; otherwise, the material will be directly returned. Excessive oxygen will cause microcracks during the subsequent wire drawing process, and microcracks will in turn lead to discontinuous solder climbing and frequent solder bridging during wave soldering.

The melting process strictly implements a dual-person review mechanism for the furnace temperature curve in accordance with ISO 9001 clauses. Each furnace batch records three sets of data: crucible temperature gradient, inert gas flow rate, and holding time. Tin-lead alloys must be held at a constant temperature of 245℃±2℃ for more than 18 minutes; otherwise, the uniformity of Flux coating will decrease, which will directly cause the tombstoning rate after SMT placement to rise by more than 0.17%.

The wire drawing process adopts a closed-loop tension control system, with the wire diameter tolerance controlled within ±0.005mm. At the same time, 3 meters are cut from both the head and tail of each Solder Wire coil for tensile strength testing. If the elongation at break is lower than 24.6%, the entire coil will be quarantined. Insufficient elongation means coarse grains, and this type of solder is prone to jamming and wire breakage on automatic wire feeders, which will trigger AOI false alarms of cold solder joints and cause the entire production line to stop for troubleshooting.

Before packaging, all solder must be left to stand at a constant temperature for 4 hours in an environment of 23℃±1℃ and RH45%±3%, then weighed with a high-precision electronic balance and scanned to bind the batch number. This operation is not a formality, but is intended to prevent premature decomposition of rosin after moisture absorption. If rosin decomposition products volatilize insufficiently during the reflow phase, micropore defects will form at the bottom of BGA packages. These defects are visible under X-ray but cannot be identified by AOI.

Before each batch leaves the factory, three sets of accelerated aging tests must be completed, namely, detecting changes in wetting angle after storage for 168 hours in an 85℃/85%RH environment. If the wetting angle increment exceeds 8.3°, the batch is judged to be failed, because this value has broken through the internal process red line set by JiajinYuan, indicating that the flux activity decays too quickly, which will cause the solder void rate on OSP boards to rise to more than 12.5% after being put into production.

A customer reported that solder bridging occurred during soldering of Konka 0201 components with a certain batch of solder. We retrieved all process records for that batch and found that the fluctuation of the wire drawing cooling water temperature reached ±3.8℃. Although it did not exceed the equipment alarm threshold, it had exceeded the upper limit of the process window. We immediately locked and recalled all 12 coils of solder wire from the corresponding time period. This response is not based on gut feeling, but follows the nonconforming product traceability path explicitly stipulated in the ISO system, which must cover the preceding and following two processes.

The essence of solder OEM contract manufacturing is not simply replicating formulas, but turning every inspection point in the ISO standards into actionable instructions on the production line. For example, flux addition must use a volumetric pump that has undergone metrological verification rather than gravimetric method, because temperature changes will cause density drift, and density drift will make the actual solid content deviate from the theoretical value by 0.09 percentage points. This deviation seems small, but it is enough to cause the same model of solder to show obvious wetting differences in different seasons.
