How Does the Internal Flux Content of Solder Wire Affect Soldering Wetting

How Does the Internal Flux Content of Solder Wire Affect Soldering Wetting

The flux content of solder wire directly affects the wetting performance of solder joints: excessively high flux content easily causes blackened residues and PCB corrosion, while excessively low flux content leads to poor wetting and frequent cold solder joints. Based on real failure cases from SMT production lines, this paper analyzes the wetting failure mechanism caused by abnormal flux content, and provides both emergency remediation measures and long-term root-cause solutions.

Effect of Tin Powder Particle Size on SMT Printing and Soldering Performance

Effect of Tin Powder Particle Size on SMT Printing and Soldering Performance

The particle size of tin powder directly affects the release performance of solder paste printing, solder joint fullness, and bridging risk. Excessively fine powder is prone to oxidation and screen clogging, while excessively coarse powder leads to printing skipping and cold soldering. In actual production lines, the solder paste printing process needs to be collaboratively optimized by combining stencil aperture dimensions, squeegee parameters, and reflow profiles.

Distinguishing Flux Types for Solder Wire: Rosin, No-Clean, and Water-Soluble

Distinguishing Flux Types for Solder Wire: Rosin, No-Clean, and Water-Soluble

The classification of solder wire flux types must strictly align with the activity grades, halogen content, and residue cleanability requirements for rosin-based, no-clean, and water-soluble fluxes specified in the IPC J-STD-004B standard. Although water-soluble fluxes offer the advantages of high activity and easy cleaning, they carry a risk of chloride ion residue exceeding the 2.5μg/cm2 limit. If the production line fails to implement the deionized water rinsing process specified in IEC 61189-2, it will easily lead to PCBA corrosion failure.

Precautions for Solder Paste Printing and Soldering After SMT Shutdown and Restart

Precautions for Solder Paste Printing and Soldering After SMT Shutdown and Restart

Restarting the machine after an SMT shutdown involves multiple risks such as reduced solder paste printing accuracy, stencil clogging, and solder paste activity attenuation. Differentiated response strategies must be developed based on the shutdown duration, ambient temperature and humidity, and solder paste type, with particular attention paid to squeegee pressure calibration, stencil cleaning frequency, and solder paste rewarming and stirring operations in the solder paste printing process.

SMT Soldering of FPC Flexible Boards: Precautions for Solder Paste and Pressure Processes

SMT Soldering of FPC Flexible Boards: Precautions for Solder Paste and Pressure Processes

Welding of FPC flexible boards is highly sensitive to solder paste printing accuracy and mounting pressure. Based on a review of real production line failures, this paper horizontally compares the occurrence rates of bridging, tombstoning, and cold soldering under different solder paste viscosities, metal contents, thixotropic properties, and various mounting pressure ranges (0.15N~0.6N) in typical scenarios such as fine-pitch ICs, double-sided pads, and high-density blind/buried via FPCs. It is clarified that for solder paste printing, models with 4# powder, 88.5% metal content, viscosity of 220Pa·s, and thixotropic index >4.2 should be prioritized, while mounting pressure must be dynamically set according to pad size, and must not be uniformly set to 0.3N.

No-Clean Solder Paste SMT Soldering: Impact of Residues on Testing

No-Clean Solder Paste SMT Soldering: Impact of Residues on Testing

Although no-clean solder paste eliminates the cleaning process in SMT soldering, post-soldering residues can easily cause poor ICT probe contact, false judgments in flying probe testing, and missed detections in functional testing. Based on production line measured data, this paper proposes 6 actionable cost-reduction measures covering solder paste selection, stencil design, reflow parameters, and test fixture maintenance, which can reduce annual test misjudgment working hours by 1200 hours and reduce false rework costs by 84,000 yuan per plant.

Solder Paste Storage Management in SMT Workshop: Preventing Defective Soldering at the Source

Solder Paste Storage Management in SMT Workshop: Preventing Defective Soldering at the Source

Solder paste warehouse management in SMT workshops is shifting from static temperature control to dynamic lifecycle tracking. Trends such as linked environmental temperature and humidity alarms, automatic timing of open-container duration, and batch-level modeling of thermal cycling-induced degradation are driving the upgrade of warehouse systems. Refined control of solder paste warehouse management has become the primary frontline defense to reduce soldering defects such as cold solder joints, tombstoning, and solder balls.

Solder Paste Printing Speed and Pressure: Sharing SMT Production Line Debugging Experience

Solder Paste Printing Speed and Pressure: Sharing SMT Production Line Debugging Experience

Based on 20 years of frontline SMT debugging experience, this paper analyzes the actual impact of key solder paste printing parameters such as printing speed and pressure on yield, identifies three major trends under high-speed printing: the narrowing of the fine-tuning window for squeegee pressure, accelerated attenuation of stencil life, and intensified shear thinning of solder paste, reveals the dual driving logic of equipment aging and the popularization of new fine-pitch devices, and provides practical SMT debugging recommendations for production line engineers, including the mandatory simultaneous monitoring of SPI data and squeegee wear status, and the incorporation of printing speed gradient testing into the standard line changeover process.

SMT Soldering of Thick Copper Boards: Optimization of Solder Paste and Temperature Profile

SMT Soldering of Thick Copper Boards: Optimization of Solder Paste and Temperature Profile

SMT soldering of thick copper boards is prone to cold solder joints and insufficient soldering due to their large heat capacity and delayed temperature rise. Solder paste activity matching and precise control of the reflow temperature profile are required to ensure solder joint reliability. The ramp-up rate in the preheating zone must be controlled between 0.5℃/s and 1.5℃/s, and the peak temperature must meet the component class limits specified in IPC-J-STD-020D. Otherwise, batch failures such as solder balls, tombstoning, and PCB delamination will occur.

Reliability of Solder Paste Soldering for Double-Sided SMT with Reflow Soldering Twice

Reliability of Solder Paste Soldering for Double-Sided SMT with Reflow Soldering Twice

In the double-sided mounting process, the solder paste soldering reliability of the second reflow pass is highly dependent on printing accuracy, reflow profile matching, and component heat capacity coordination. Based on measured data from mass production lines, this paper explicitly specifies key parameters including a stencil thickness of 0.12mm, a squeegee pressure of 2.8kg, and a reflow peak temperature of 235℃±2℃, and points out that the risk of re-melting of already soldered components on the A side during the B-side reflow pass is concentrated on resistors and capacitors below 0603 and the bottom pads of QFN packages.
