In the production process of Lead-free solder paste, what problems can arise during Reflow Soldering or from improper settings? If the solder joints do not melt fully or lack brightness’whether the optimum profile is reached’it directly affects joint quality, and in turn the quality and performance of the product. It is therefore essential to use a temperature-profile tester to control reflow soldering temperature, which saves time and improves efficiency. To ensure product quality and boost efficiency, JJY Solder Paste now discusses the potential hazards involved!
1. Potential hazards from hot surfaces during reflow soldering:
The conveyor chain, guide rails and moving boards all transfer heat, and some surface temperatures can reach 66℃ (150℃H), which may cause burns to human skin.
Safety measures when operating a reflow oven: while it is running, wear heat-resistant gloves or protective clothing. It is strictly prohibited to touch the transport system or boards coming out of the machine without protective gloves, and let the PCB cool first. When maintaining any part of the machine, put on protective clothing first. Note: do not allow any object other than the PCB to enter the machine.
2. Internal cleaning and solder-paste exhaust gas after reflow soldering operation
Install an exhaust-gas treatment system: since the gases produced during reflow soldering may be harmful, a suitable filtration and monitoring exhaust system should be installed.
Air quality inspection: regularly monitor the air quality in the workplace to enhance safety on the shop floor.
3. Potential hazards of fire or smoke during reflow soldering
Motor: under normal operation, the motor can produce sparks due to friction, which may ignite the surrounding environment.
Heat source: if a board stays in the machine for too long, it may ignite the PCB.
Protective measures: to prevent fires during reflow soldering, adopt proper fire-fighting practices and install fire-prevention facilities in accordance with local safety regulations. Keep flammable materials away and do not place anything flammable inside or near the machine. Keep the reflow oven clean, do not leave printed circuit boards inside the machine, and make sure all motors are operating normally.
4. Potential steam and gas hazards during reflow soldering
During normal reflow oven operation, if a board falls into the chamber it may burn and release harmful gases. The printed circuit board and rosin Flux also emit gases or vapors. If the exhaust system is not working properly, these gases accumulate in the chamber, creating a pressure difference with the outside, and are discharged into the work area through the board inlet and outlet. Protective measures: before starting the reflow oven, connect the exhaust system properly and make sure it is operating normally.
Summary: when working in an SMT (surface mount technology) factory, it is essential to master reflow soldering knowledge, operate the oven correctly, and carry out regular maintenance to protect our health!
