According to the *Annual Tracking Report on the Evolution of Electronic Assembly Process Technology* released jointly by the China Electronic Circuits Association and CCID Consulting in January 2026, more than 73% of surveyed EMS contract manufacturers have listed SMT Solder-related process optimization as one of their top three priorities for production line technical upgrades in 2026. This proportion is 11 percentage points higher than the same period in 2025, reflecting the industry's continuously growing practical demand for stable soldering quality and breakthroughs in yield bottlenecks.
In mid-February 2026, Shenzhen Foxconn Guanlan Park completed the solder process calibration for its second dedicated SMT production line for high-density HDI boards. The line uses Sn96.5Ag3.0Cu0.5 low-silver lead-free solder paired with a dynamic closed-loop nitrogen concentration control system, which keeps the average void rate of BGA component solder joints stably below 8.2%, a 3.7 percentage point decrease compared to the previous generation Sn99.3Cu0.7 solder. This data comes from 30 consecutive days of SPC sampling inspection records on the production line, and has been simultaneously included in the incoming material process audit checklist for customer AEC-Q200 automotive-grade components.
Since January 2026, Suzhou Pegatron Technology has piloted an AI-assisted design system for SMT solder stencil apertures at its Kunshan plant. Trained on 270,000 sets of actual printing data from the past three years, the system can automatically adjust Solder Paste volume compensation coefficients for changes in pad size and spacing of micro components such as 01005 and 0201 packages. During the trial run, the standard deviation of solder paste transfer rate narrowed from ±9.4% to ±5.1%, and no batch rework incidents of tombstoning or bridging defects caused by solder volume deviation occurred.
Industry consensus is gradually shifting from single Solder Composition selection to full-process coupled optimization. Multiple links including stencil laser cutting precision, printer squeegee pressure curves, mounter nozzle vacuum attenuation compensation, and matching of chain speed and temperature gradient across reflow oven zones all need to dynamically adapt to the rheological properties, melting peak width, and oxidation sensitivity of SMT solder. This cross-process collaboration is no longer an exclusive practice for leading enterprises, but is rapidly penetrating into mid-sized EMS manufacturers with annual revenue above 500 million yuan.
Notably, Domestic Solder material suppliers have significantly accelerated their response pace. The trace Ni-P nanoparticle reinforced SMT solder jointly developed by Yunhai Metal and the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has completed small-batch verification at two power module manufacturers in Dongguan. After 500 thermal cycles from -40℃ to 125℃, the solder joint shear strength retention rate reaches 91.3%. However, mass production introduction is still limited by the consistency control capability of the nanoparticle dispersion process, and has not yet entered the certification process of mainstream consumer electronics customers.
