When replacing imported Solder Paste on the production line, it was found that the high-activity solder paste of the 8MQP/5RQ series achieves a solder climbing coverage rate of over 98% for QFN0.4mm pitch devices, which benefits from the synergistic effect of its ROL1 rosin-based system and 0307T4 alloy powder. In contrast, the 8MTSP/5RTS, also labeled as high-activity, has stricter ROL0 halogen control, resulting in a stable solder climbing rate in the range of 75%~88%, but with less post-solder residue and better light transmittance, making it particularly suitable for consumer electronics motherboards with frequent AOI inspections. The 8MNTTP/5RNTT reduces halogen to 100~200ppm and introduces 00507BN and 00507B2N dual-Bi micro-doped alloy powders, achieving a void rate below 3% while maintaining consistent solder climbing height on notebook CPU power supply modules. This indicates that the activity of high-activity solder paste is not only a matter of Flux, but also depends on the matching of oxide film thickness and surface energy of the alloy powder.
In the practical application of Reflow Soldering solder paste, the combination of LFP-JJY5RQ-0307 and LFP-JJY5RQ-305 is most frequently mixed. The former has a 0307 alloy melting point range of 221~227℃ and a soldering window of 240~260℃, while the latter has a 305 alloy melting point of 217℃ and a window of 235~255℃. Although the theoretical temperature difference is only 5℃, actual measurements in a nitrogen furnace show that the former requires a peak temperature of 252℃ to ensure sufficient solder joint wetting, while the latter experiences a sharp increase in solder beads at 248℃. This difference must be compensated by fine-tuning the furnace temperature profile when using the same reflow soldering equipment, otherwise it will lead to batch-to-batch yield fluctuations exceeding 1.2%. The halogen-free version of LFP-JJY5RR-0307 can achieve 0ppm halogen, but its ROL0 rosin system has a volatilization rate 8 seconds slower than ROL1 during the preheating stage. If the holding zone time is insufficient, it will cause carbonization of flux residue, which instead increases the risk of cold soldering. For laser soldering scenarios, LFP-JJY5RLJ-305 shows significant advantages in jet valve dispensing. Its T6 ultra-fine powder and low-volatility rosin ratio improve the uniformity of solder paste spreading at the laser focal point by 40%, while the ordinary T4 powder 8MQP/5RQ is prone to central depression under the same parameters. The water-washable LFP-JJY5RW1-0307 has low cost, but if the ORH1 water-wash system is not thoroughly dried after cleaning, invisible water film residue will form at the bottom of the BGA, leading to premature solder joint corrosion during high-temperature and high-humidity aging tests. The LFP-JJY5RG-In52Sn48 ultra-low temperature solder paste completes soldering at a peak temperature of 140℃, but due to the strong migration of In element, the stencil must be forcibly cleaned after continuous production of more than 200 pieces, otherwise the mesh clogging rate will sharply rise from 3% to 17%.When selecting Domestic Solder Paste brands, one cannot only look at the "high activity" label on the brochure. For example, although the 8MA series is marked as suitable for LED lighting, its SC07 alloy powder has a wetting angle 12° larger than 0307 during 245℃ reflow, which easily causes edge solder shrinkage on aluminum substrate LED modules. In contrast, the 8MW5/5RW5 solder paste dedicated to aluminum soldering contains Ni micro-alloying, and its contact angle on aluminum nickel-plated layer is stable within 28°, which is the core to truly solve the solder climbing problem. Once LFP-JJY5RNTT-305 was used to replace a certain Japanese brand for fingerprint lock motherboards, not only reducing the per-board solder paste cost from 1.83 yuan to 0.97 yuan, but also lowering the FT test misjudgment rate by 0.6 percentage points due to high residue transparency. These data were obtained under a daily mass production rhythm of 3000 pieces, not adjusted in a laboratory.Related Articles
