The stability of continuous Solder Paste printing is not achieved by piling up parameter tables, but by the coordinated interaction of squeegee pressure, stencil aperture, reflow profile, and solder paste rheological properties. During a 32-hour continuous printing test at an automotive lighting factory in Dongguan using 8M9P/5RR, it was found that when the stencil tension was below 35N/cm² and the ambient humidity exceeded 65%RH, even with T4 powder 0307 alloy, solder paste trailing at the edges of QFN pads began to appear from the fifth consecutive board. In contrast, the concurrently tested 8MQP/5RQ, despite slightly higher halogen content (both items <1500ppm), maintained no obvious slump for 72 hours due to its ROL1 grade rosin system volatilizing more fully in the high-temperature zone.
The activity design of Domestic Solder Paste must match the actual production line takt time. 8MTSP/5RTS has a nominal solder wetting rate of 70%-90%, but field testing at a fingerprint module factory in Suzhou found that when the printing speed was increased from 25mm/s to 38mm/s, its hole filling rate for 0.4mm pitch QFN plummeted to 61.3%. Under the same conditions, 8MNTTP/5RNTT still maintained 86.7% solder wetting consistency. The root cause is that the latter incorporates 00507BN/B2N dual-nickel micro-alloy powder, which has stronger particle rearrangement capability under shear stress, while its 100~200ppm ultra-low halogen level ensures transparent Flux residue that does not corrode the OSP film. The cost advantage of water-washable solder paste cannot mask the adaptation risks of the cleaning process. 8MW1P/5RW1 performs excellently during continuous printing on LED strip production lines, but after switching to aluminum substrate heat sink scenarios, micron-scale white spots appeared on the PCB surface after water washing. Ion chromatography analysis confirmed that this was caused by trace Ni precipitation from the SC07 alloy. In contrast, 8MW5/5RW5 is specifically developed for soldering aluminum; its Sn64Bi35Ag1+SC07 composite powder forms a dense intermetallic compound layer during 185℃ reflow, and the adhesion of the aluminum nickel-plated layer shows no attenuation after water washing. In laser welding scenarios, solder paste cannot simply rely on lowering the melting point. The 5RLJ series uses T6/T7 grade ultra-fine 00507BN powder paired with a <500ppm ROL0 rosin system, achieving a dispensing consistency of ±1.2% during screw valve dispensing. In contrast, ordinary 8M/2R medium-temperature paste exhibits a fluctuation of ±4.7% on the same equipment. The fundamental difference is that the Sn42Bi58 alloy in the latter suffers severe Bi phase segregation under instantaneous laser heating, causing the solder joint void rate to surge from ≤3.2% for 8M9P/5RR to 12.8%.The reliability pitfalls of low-temperature solder paste often emerge after thermal cycling. Although the 5RG series In52Sn48 alloy has a melting point of only 118℃, after 500 cycles of thermal shock from -40℃ to 125℃, it was found that the IMC thickness growth rate of its solder joints is 2.3 times faster than that of Sn64Bi35Ag1. This means that in Bluetooth earphone FPC assembly, if the reflow peak temperature is not strictly controlled at 145±3℃, the repair rate will increase by 17 percentage points within half a year. The Sn64.7Bi35Ag0.3 formulation of 8MTHL/2RTHL, through trace Ag solid solution strengthening, increases the IMC growth activation energy by 0.8eV.Related Articles
