Flux is used to join two metal surfaces. The connection is completed through fusion welding, hard brazing or soft brazing. The main difference between them lies in that welding and hard brazing do not require cleaning, but for electronic components, cleaning is a key process. After the connection process is completed, it is necessary to clean and remove the residues; otherwise, on-site failure will occur to a large extent. The specific situation depends on the components used and the type of flux.


Solder paste

The common metal surfaces connected by welding processes are copper and tin, both of which have a tendency to naturally oxidize. Therefore, in order to achieve their direct bonding, the oxides need to be removed. Flux can also perform some other functions at the welding temperature. They can reduce the surface tension of the solder, cause the solder to expand and promote wetting, thereby enabling the solder to form a strong and reliable solder joint.
It can also prevent the solder from further oxidizing during the welding process. To obtain additional oxidation protection, sometimes we also use nitrogen, but nitrogen does not play a role in the formation of intermetallic bonding, but it is indispensable for intermetallic bonding. In addition to its chemical properties, it also has excellent thermal stability, adhesion, ductility, electrolytic activity, environmental stability, chemical functional groups and their reaction properties, rheological properties, universal cleaning solutions and equipment adaptability, etc.
